PRINCIPAL POST OFFICES AND SUB-OFFICES
The First Period corresponds to the earliest distribution and use of the Imperial Eagle stamps during the establishment of the Second Mexican Empire. At this stage, consignment numbers had not yet been introduced, and the stamps are found either without consignment numbers or with only the district overprint, depending on the locality and date of use. Postal documents from this period illustrate the initial circulation of the Imperial issue throughout the Mexican postal network.

La Première Période correspond aux premières distributions et utilisations des timbres Aigles impériaux lors de la mise en place du Second Empire mexicain. À ce stade, les numéros de consignation n'avaient pas encore été introduits ; les timbres se rencontrent donc sans numéro de consignation, avec ou sans surcharge de district selon les localités et les dates d'utilisation. Les documents postaux de cette période illustrent les débuts de la circulation de cette émission au sein du réseau postal mexicain.
SILAO → GUANAJUATO, First Period (8 August 1864). Entire letter prepaid with a single 1 real blue Imperial Eagle stamp, tied by the distinctive negative CORREOS SILAO cancellation. Addressed to Guanajuato, where a clear FRANCO GUANAJUATO arrival marking was applied. An attractive early First Period usage between two principal post offices of the Guanajuato postal district.

Lettre entière affranchie d'un 1 real bleu de l'émission des Aigles impériaux de 1864, oblitéré par le cachet négatif caractéristique CORREOS SILAO. Adressée à Guanajuato, où elle reçoit un net cachet d'arrivée FRANCO GUANAJUATO. Belle utilisation de la Première période entre deux bureaux principaux du district postal de Guanajuato.
Sub-office 5 LA PIEDAD TO MORELIA, first period,1864
Complete folded letter franked with a 2 reales orange Imperial Eagle stamp of the First Period.
The cover bears the straight-line "Franco en La Piedad" marking (Schatzkès 969), identifying the origin as the sub-office of La Piedad in the State of Michoacán.
The 2 reales franking prepaid the domestic letter rate. Covers from La Piedad during the First Period are rarely encountered and constitute desirable examples of sub-office postal history. MEPSI Certificate No. 10055.
Sous-bureau 5 LA PIEDAD → MORELIA, Première période 1864
Lettre entière affranchie d'un 2 reales orange de l'émission des Aigles impériaux de la Première période.
La marque linéaire « Franco en La Piedad » (Schatzkès 969) identifie l'origine de cette lettre au sous-bureau de La Piedad (État du Michoacán).
L'affranchissement à 2 reales acquitte le port intérieur. Les lettres de la Première période provenant du sous-bureau de La Piedad sont particulièrement rares et constituent des pièces de choix pour l'étude de l'histoire postale des sous-bureaux mexicains. Certificat MEPSI n° 10055.
One of the great rarities of the Imperial Eagle issue.
This 1 real yellow-green, First Period (1864), bears the exceptionally rare manuscript "RIO VERDE" town name and cancellation of the small sub-office of Río Verde, San Luis Potosí. Only a handful of such manuscript markings are known, making this one of the most elusive sub-office cancellations of the Imperial Eagle issue.
The manuscript town name and cancellation have been certified genuine by the MEPSI Expert Committee (Certificate No. 40027, 8 June 2026), confirming the authenticity of this outstanding postal rarity.
Sous-bureau de Río Verde (San Luis Potosí)
L'une des grandes raretés de l'émission des Aigles impériaux.
Ce 1 real jaune-vert de la Première période (1864) porte le très rare nom de bureau et l'oblitération manuscrits « RIO VERDE », utilisés par le petit sous-bureau de Río Verde (San Luis Potosí). Seuls quelques exemplaires de ce type sont connus, ce qui en fait l'une des plus rares oblitérations manuscrites de l'émission des Aigles impériaux.
Le nom du bureau et l'oblitération manuscrits ont été certifiés authentiques par le Comité d'expertise de la MEPSI (certificat n° 40027 du 8 juin 2026), confirmant le caractère exceptionnel de cette pièce.
Sub-office Ojo Caliente → Hacienda del Carro. Letter franked with a 1 real dark blue stamp of the Zacatecas District during the First Period. Rare usage from the Ojo Caliente sub-office, from which very few covers are known. Ex-Corbett.

Mexico → Guadalajara. Heavy-weight letter franked with an attractive 10 reales combination (8 reales red + 2 reales yellow) during the First Period (8 May – 7 July 1864). A scarce multiple-rate internal usage predating district overprints and consignment numbers.
