Principal Post Offices and Sub-Offices

By the Third Period (20 September – 31 December 1864), the administrative system introduced by the Imperial postal authorities was fully operational. District overprints and consignment numbers were now routinely applied, allowing stricter control over stamp distribution throughout the Empire.

Principal post offices continued to receive stamp consignments directly from Mexico City and supplied the sub-offices under their jurisdiction. As postal operations became more organized, a wide variety of cancellations and postal markings appeared across the Empire.

The stamps presented in this section illustrate the diversity of usages encountered in both principal post offices and sub-offices during this period of consolidation of the Imperial postal system.

Au cours de la troisième période (20 septembre – 31 décembre 1864), le système administratif mis en place par les autorités postales impériales est désormais pleinement opérationnel. Les surcharges de district et les numéros d'envoi sont utilisés de manière régulière, permettant un contrôle plus rigoureux de la distribution des timbres à travers l'Empire.

Les bureaux principaux continuent de recevoir les approvisionnements directement de Mexico et assurent la distribution aux sous-bureaux placés sous leur autorité. Cette organisation favorise l'apparition d'une grande diversité d'oblitérations et de marques postales.
