Principal Post Offices and Sub-Offices
The Second Period (7 July – 19 September 1864) is characterized by the introduction of district overprints and consignment numbers used for administrative control of stamp stocks.
Principal post offices received stamps directly from Mexico City and distributed them to the sub-offices within their districts. This system contributed to the gradual expansion of the Imperial postal network throughout the Empire.
The stamps presented in this section illustrate the use of the Imperial Eagles issue in both principal post offices and sub-offices during this important phase in the development of the postal system of the Second Mexican Empire.
